Pop Idol superstar Gareth Gates is one of the most well-known solo artists in the UK. Selling over 3.5 million records in the UK alone, Gareth has enjoyed a highly successful singer who has enjoyed time in solo work and as a leading figure in west-end theatre production. Runner-up to Will Young in the first ever series of ITV’s Pop Idol, Gates first auditioned with Flying Without Wings and was immediately put through to the next rounds of the show. Gates’ first ever single was Unchained Melody, which went straight to No.1 and achieved double-platinum status in the UK and was voted the Record of the Year by ITV viewers.

Gareth went onto record another three solo number ones, including Anyone One of Us, Suspicious Minds and What My Heart Wants to Say. As a solo artist, Gareth has been an award-winning star across the globe, including Asian nations, where he won MTV Asia’s Best International Male for 2003/2004, as well as winning the same title in China and Taiwan. Gareth suffers from a stutter and raised huge awareness over the impediment, with singing being a release from his stutter, Gareth has talked publicly about overcoming his troubles and worked with the McGuire programme to manage the problem and later became a coach and mentor himself.

Gates diversified into West End musicals in 2009, playing the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Gates’ has also taken the role of Marius in Les Misérables alongside touring with the UK production of Hair. Gareth has proven his credentials as a solo artist, receiving critical acclaim for both his production music and live performances.
